An evidence company for international admissions
LexiCert sits between students in India and the universities they are applying to abroad. Our job is narrow and specific: produce assessment and interview evidence that a university can rely on without needing to meet the applicant first.
Mission
Give universities and colleges a single, consistent way to verify an applicant's English proficiency and interview performance before an offer is finalised.
Vision
To be the assessment layer international admissions teams default to when a decision needs to be defensible, not just fast.
Online-first approach
Every test and interview runs on a proctored online platform. Nothing about our process assumes a student can travel to be assessed in person.
Why LexiCert was founded
LexiCert began in 2016 as an English coaching practice for Mumbai students preparing to study abroad. What kept coming up, term after term, was the same failure: a student with a strong application and a passing test score would still struggle in their first live conversation with the institution, sometimes not until they had already arrived.
Universities had no reliable, consistent way to check spoken English or interview readiness before committing to an offer. Agents varied wildly in how they screened candidates, and a single written test score did not capture whether a student could actually hold a real-time academic conversation.
LexiCert was built to close that specific gap: CEFR-aligned assessment, a structured recorded interview, and a report a university's admissions team could act on without needing to interpret it themselves.
Our timeline
2016
Founded in Mumbai
LexiCert started as a small English coaching practice for students applying abroad, run out of a single classroom in Andheri.
2018
First university partnership
A UK college asked us to conduct admissions interviews on their behalf for Mumbai-based applicants, after too many offers were withdrawn at the visa interview stage.
2020
Moved fully online
Testing and interviews shifted entirely to a proctored online format, removing the need for students to travel for an assessment.
2022
CEFR-aligned scoring rebuilt in-house
We rebuilt our scoring rubric and examiner training programme to align formally with the CEFR framework, with dual-examiner review on borderline results.
2024
38 partner universities
Partnerships expanded across the UK, United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, with dedicated intake windows for each admissions cycle.
A decade of assessment and interview experience
Based in Mumbai, LexiCert now works with 38 partner universities across the UK, United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, delivering over 12,400 assessments to date.
